Week 3: Temescal Canyon Sunset Hike + Bonfire Signup (DUE SAT 11:59PM) + Joshua Tree Signup

Hello all!

Thanks to everyone who went to last week’s workshop on landscape photography! Also, thanks to the mentees that came along after to do light painting and long exposure photography on campus and around downtown LA. Don’t forget to post your best shots on the FB or Flickr group!

This week, we will be meeting on Friday the 18th at De Neve Plaza at 3:45PM. DON’T BE LATE.  We’ll be taking the Metro 2 bus to Temescal Canyon, so don’t forget to bring some cash! The bus is $1.00 one-way if you show your BruinCard. The hike will be 4  mi. total, so we’ll have plenty of time to stake out a spot and grab some nice sunset shots. Don’t forget to bring water, good shoes, a flashlight, a light jacket, a tripod, and your camera! Expect to be back around 8:00pm. See you all there!

If you are in the mentee program, we’ll be playing with double exposure portraits during this week’s event.

Bonfire Signup:

4th week Friday will be the Photography Club’s Beach Bonfire event! Come for food, friends, games, and more! We’ll also be doing a quick landscape workshop on the beach, and a light painting activity. There’s a cost of $7 for the event (pay at the event!) covering food, transportation, etc. , and signups are here. We’re closing the form THIS SATURDAY, 11:59PM, so sign up now!

Joshua Tree Signup:

8th week (week before Thanksgiving) the Photo Club at UCLA will be heading to Joshua Tree for a weekend of hiking and astrophotography during the Leonids meteor shower. We’ll be going from Friday until Sunday, Nov 22-24 (we will also arrange for some groups to arrive Saturday).  Cars may be returning to UCLA at different times on Sunday morning; we should be back by the early afternoon. The cost is $~50 and all-inclusive (food, transportation, campsite, etc.). However, attendees are requested to bring all the usual items that would accompany a weekend trip, as well as  camera gear. We are also looking for additional drivers and any camping gear people might have available. The less gear we have to rent, the cheaper the trip will be. We will send a packing list closer to the dates of the trip. Due to the logistics involved in planning the trip, we are asking for a $25 deposit with the sign-up; the deposit can be paid through Paypal or in cash at any meeting. The earlier you sign up, the better we can plan for the event, so please sign up ASAP!

NOTE: Due to the continuing government shutdown, Joshua Tree National Park is still currently closed. Our backup plan is the Eastern Sierra, which is about 50 miles farther but at least as beautiful — this is not on National Park land so has not been closed.
