Week 5: West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval + Landscape Photography Workshop

Hello all!

Thanks for those who came out to our outing last week. This week we’ve got two events planned; we’re heading to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval this Wednesday, October 31st, and on Friday, November 2nd, we’ll be meeting up at Ackerman Union 3517 for a talk on landscape photography with Jeff Lewis.

West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval:
On Wednesday, October 31st, meet up at the Le Conte/Hilgard bus stop at 6:00 pm. If you are in the dorms, feel free to take the Metro 2 bus from the Gayley/Strathmore bus stop. The rest of us will get on the bus when it reaches the Le Conte/Hilgard stop. We will be taking the bus towards Sunset and Downtown, so remember to take the right one! (If you are at Gayley/Strathmore, it is the stop opposite the street from the dorms). Bus fare is $1.50 one-way, and don’t forget your camera or your costume! For those that wish to go independently, the stop is San Vincente/Sunset, and you can walk south to Santa Monica Blvd which is only a few streets over.

Landscape Photography Workshop:
On Friday, November 2nd, meet up at Ackerman Union, 3517 at 5:00pm for a talk on landscape photography with Jeff Lewis. Check out more of his work at http://www.landescapephotography.com/ and http://www.flickr.com/people/landescapephotography/.

Intro Class:
For those interested in the weekly intro class, we’ll be meeting up on Sunday, November 4th, at the Bruin Bear at 1:00pm.

Photography in LA:

A new photography exhibit has opened up at the Getty Museum on Robert Mapplethorpe , showcasing his still-lifes, nudes, and celebrity portraits. The Getty Museum gardens have also reopened for those interested in wandering the grounds. To get to the Getty Museum from campus (the dorms) take the Metro 761 ($1.50 one way) from Sunset/Bellagio towards Pacoima and ride two stops until Getty Center Dr.. Then cross the road and take the tram up to the museum. There is no entry fee for the museum, and the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm.

If you know of other events around LA that would be interesting to your fellow photographers, please tell us about them or post on the Facebook group!
